Yeah but I think Berbera port is a larger port and more widely used than the one in Bosaso. Don't take my word for it, I might be wrong.

It is far larger, and more important than Bosaso. Nobody’s doubting that. It was both a Soviet and an American base. But the investment of both Berbera and Bosaso by P&O and DP World ports is within the same range, which IMO highlights that they aren’t serious. Think about it, why would the UAE want to compete with two Somali ports when their country is running out of oil and they are trying to diversify their economy? Why wouldn’t they try sabotage both ports if they done the same thing to Yemen?

It's not even same scale not even close, DP World is investing $$$$billions in Somaliland, they are investing $500m on Berbera port alone.
They are investing also agriculture, tourism, infrastructure, airports, and many more in Somaliland.
We had clear agreement and shares.
Meanwhile in Puntland no one knows, what they agreed, or what shares they will have.

Stupid move who is going to invest in Djibouti now? They can't even hold to agreements it makes them wonder if you can trust Somalis when it comes to big deals.

If you were a soamliland and you were getting $1billion dollars of investment when your countries budget is roughly 100 million would you not take it, The jobs it will create and the multiplier effect it will have on the economy without you even spending $1 yourself, at the same time the population will thank you, what reer miyi would think DP world built the new airport/port they'll think Silayo or Musa bixi did it meaning they would probably vote for kulmiyie next elections too.

But couldn't us somalis who are spending millions on Hotels and other useless selfish businesses spend it on bonds for the goverment and build our own ports and get our ROI back and some whilst keeping the Port strictly somali.

Bingo. It's easy to kick out a foreign company but it will scare away other potential investments. Djibouti should've gone through the proper legal channels.
Somalis already have a bad credit check, this will only make it worse.
@Lordilord Berbera port is much bigger than Bosaso. However despite its bigger size DP World paid a mere 100 million more, compared to Bosaso, for the 30 years lease. Berbera deal includes a military base as well.

It's also a joke to mention Berbera and Bosaso along Djibouti port deals. The two received around 300-400 million and the Djibouti port deals are in the billions. It shows the ignorance and naivety to think we can fill in the vacuum left by Djibouti.

Maybe this will make them invest more into Berbera port like you said in the billions which it should be.
This might improve Somaliland relationship with UAE but now the issue that can occur in the future is other foreign nations might be hesitant to invest or make deals because of what Djibouti did.

Djibouti will continue to matter and play a critical role, not only in East Africa, but Africa in general. The largest economy, yes, largest economy in the world, China, has put all its African chips in Djibouti.
