FGS New Digital Tax

Jubaland says that this tax doesn't concern them, so will Hormuud takes this tax from Banadir alone or from other areas in the south as well?

Why are people against the tax? Somalia needs the tax money to fund the Somali Military so they can finally defeat Al shabaab and no longer be dependent on international aid money.

HSM said this only applies to businesses with merchant accounts and not person to person sending money to each other. If its only going to apply for Banaadir, how much revenue can the FGS raise?

The sales tax that the government collects now is around $3m to $4m per month, and most of this are goods taxed in the port where the merchant pays the sales tax before he sells the goods and no way to evade this tax, but since the new scheme only applies to merchant accounts it will be easier to cheat the system.
My guess is they can raise additional $1m to $2m per month.

I think most of the tax laws are from 1984/85 or 1966. The only time - that I remember- were they introduced a new tax law was 2023 (turnover tax). SL was using the same laws until they repealed most of those in 2016.
With the likes of Ali Ise, Bayle, Hodan I, F. Abraar, Gaas to name a few, working for the FGS, some in charge of the MoF with others at Consulting capacity, all with extensive, sound background in economics, finance, and accountancy of more than a century amongst them, they have not formulated a comprehensive taxing system for the FGS. What a bloody waste.

Culusow is not wrong on this one. If they refuse to pay taxes shut down their businesses for good. Where in the world have you seen a government function without taxes.

@Three Moons @Step a side it does not matter who owns Golis, it is not going to be collecting any taxes in PL. If Golis were to begin levying a 5% tax that Siciid Deni has not signed off on, that is the last day they operate as a business.

I will never pay taxes to Hawiye.
How could this country possibly move forward with such mindset. It's understandable saying this about HSM as he is an individual but stating you will never pay taxes which is vital in order for a country to function due to a clan of millions says a lot. At least your straightforward lol.

Hawiye have been blockading all foreign aid destined for Puntland for more than 2 years due to Puntland’s refusal to accept a fake mooryaan constitution.

If the FGS is going to be used against Puntland on a clan basis, Puntland will weaken the FGS and render it ineffectual.

Still with the fake “blocking aid” story? I remember y’all used to say the same thing back during Farmajo’s era. It doesn’t work because nobody cares.

The garowe 1/2 nonsense ended a while ago. The IMF had requirements for debt forgiveness. The FGS had to limit cash on hand and increase transparency.

HSM could’ve worked around it, but Dani refused to play ball. A zero sum game doesn’t work when you have zero leverage. I heard HSM doesn’t even answer dani’s calls anymore.
But but what about hargysa? their budget support got torpedoed too.

The FGS has no say over Aid/WB/IMF projects. But It looks Trump’s about to squeeze that too. We’ll see who weathers it better.

It’s a subsidiary just like Telesom which operates in SL. Both Sahal and Zaad are also sub-subsidiaries of Hormuud, not just EVC.

And yes, local MJ/Isaaq oligarchs hold sizable shares and get their cut. Hormuud just publicly distances itself cause they know how clannish and childish yall northerners are.

Meanwhile, Dahabshiil operates openly and freely in the south lmaooo

Fake news.

Pathetic excuse.

The man that destroyed the trained troops in turkey during Farmajo rule wouldn't care about building a new army.

He just want a rag tag militia.

We saw what happen to FGS army in jubbaland and how a state troops destroyed them.

Somalis shouldn't pay a penny until the government is cleaned from corruption

Don’t be so angry man. We are enemies, all is fair.

We will see if Xasan Sheekh manages to complete the constitution, defeat Alshabab and hold free & fair elections in the next 12 months.
