The right wing are followers, while the left wing are visionaries. The left got the LGBTs their rights and now the right is joining the bandwagon. Similar effects took place during slavery abolition, anti-discrimination laws, worker's right etc. The right was always on the wrong side.
PS. In America, the Democrats and Republicans switched ideologies numerous times. I am talking about ideologies not parties.
