They are Dir who moved to the south after the 15/16th century.

The Bimaal hail from the Mahe sub of the Dir, alongside the Surre, Garre and Isaaq,
They are very warlike and migrated to the lower Shabelle after the Ethio-Adal wars, carved up some of most fertile areas in the south, they are agropastoralists and traders, and they are known for fighting against the Italians in Merca for decades, mainly to keep the right to own slaves.

I'm not familiar with the sultanates of the south, the majority of them were more like chiefdoms.
