Gen. Odawa in Turkey

As @kickz said, Somalia’s army needs to project youthfulness to the masses.

Having Odowaa instead of some old man makes a lot of sense.
There are far more important attributes in a general than that, there are many ways of keeping soldiers motivated. I'd have far more faith in a general with exceptional ability and experience on the field.

Well yea, you’re educated and from the West. You understand that elderly men in suits project experience and cunning.

In Somalia, its dog eat dog, they see the elderly as useless. Having a military commander that’s elderly projects weakness.

What you perceive isn’t necessarily what the rest of our people perceive.

Nah... if the individual is capable no one will see him as useless, dont know where you're getting that from, lol. You're forgetting we have had a number of old generals/warlords whom had garnered unquestionable loyalty.

They got a lot of their loyalty from Somali diaspora and political class.

However, our population is young. Half of the population barely remembers Aidiid and the others.

Somalis want a leader that represents the demographics of the country.

agreed. 75% of Somalis are under the age of 30. Most of these lot don't know/care about the elderly warlords who ran the show back in the 90s and early 2000. They all want the young to lead now

How many powerful countries or countries in dire need of a strong military have an anorexic 30 year old ex-bodyguard as their highest military official?
