to my understanding, it is a really serious sin but I don't know of it constituting kufr in and of itself. but with that being said- whenever people follow their desires in an extreme way, I think this could lead to them apostasizing. I don't know the specifics of the topic here but I definitely think it's possible that people could follow tribalism to the point that they start to become munafiqun. I'm not saying tribalism in a direct way is kufr but in an indirect way, I think people following their desires could lead to them exiting from Islam. but to my understanding, there are people with elements of nifaq, people following their desires. a person could be a full-blown munafiq, they could have elements of nifaq, could have elements of jahiliyyah. I don't know that extreme tribalists are munafiqun but whoever is like that, I definitely think they have elements of jahiliyyah in them.
