Somalia wasn't "westernized" back then sxb, sure some things like music might've been inspired by Western movies and music but Somali culture back then was at it's peak and Somali Dhaqan was very embraced to it's full potential. There were more Mosques and Islamic and afternoon Arabic schools built from 1970-1988 in Somalia than ever in it's history. This why how a lot of parents learned arabic. The government opted to preach more sufi teachings though which I think why Somalia might've seem secular, the best comparison I can give it maybe Iraq during Saddams rule in the 70s and 80s
