brown shoes with jeans and a blazer jacket would look really good.

i dont know about the unwritten rule, but i'm thinking in terms of colour coordination. black shoes don't go with navy suits unless its really dark navy.

Brown dress shoes are only worn with brown suits. Black suits with black dress shoes.

Other colored suits that aren't white you can wear either brown or black shoes. White suits have to be worn with lighter colored dress shoes
