It's cultural colonialism. I went to another city in Ontario for work recently and a Syrian brother told me that back in Syria they say that Somalis are Arab in school. He was a good guy, but this is the way indoctrination works.

I'm light skinned, and I had soft wavy hair (I'm bald now, genes and what not) and a small nose. At work, when I met some Arabs, they tried to talk Arabic to me. Had a Pakistani do the same (bruh, you're brown fam).

In uni, some said they don't consider Somalis black, and thus me.

To my dark skinned Somali brothers and sisters, they had the opposite effect.

But ya gotta know, this has nothing to do with race. It has to do with cultural control.

Egyptians, North Africans, Sudanese, and people in the Levant are not racially Arab. Only Gulf Arabs are genuinely Arab. Most of these guys lost their culture. This is more geopolitical then people think. Race ain't the whole story. It's deeper than that.

Even though "black" is a made up term by a European and Africans only considered themselves as their tribe in the past, ultimately as a pragmatist, racial identity should be based on a practical account for one's social connection.

On that basis, I'm a black man. And proud of it.
