No I’ve never seen it amongst somalis actually. Both my first and last names are somali though so I guess to employers I am a bit ambiguous.

ngl all jokes aside I have thought about it for the future though but it's a case of given up our identity completely to assimilate with these damn cadaans or making life easier for our kids?

I feel like the best thing we can do aside from being as qualified for the job as possible is trying to make strong connections in order to work for a specific company you desire

Yeah I have a couple close relatives who changed their names. But I personally think It's more important to act like cadaan once at the job rather than look the part. That's what Arab and south Asian Muslims are really good at, along with being annoying brownnosers.

I never heard of it amoungest somalis although I notice here in California That East Asians tend to ALWAYS purposely give their kids typical American/English first names instead of traditional Cambodian, Vietnamese, Chinese first names.

For example (Alex Nyguen, Micheal Chan, Jonathan Phan, Oliver Cheng, James Duong etc)

I remember a white colleague once try act all buddy-buddy with me when he clocked I was from the hood. The nigga was visibly pissed when he clocked I wasn't larping as a gang banger in a professional setting as If I'm going to code switch for his dusty ass.
