This is slavery on steroids, how on earth you give away your whole resource just for them to defend you against another somali, tbh we normalized every thing inlcuding slavery, I saw some people celebrating cuz turkey gonna send its mercenaries to muqdishoThis is 1 step away from slavery![]()
if the FGS falls won’t the deal be null and void? The new government (whomever they may be) have a right to wave all those previous agreements away and order the Turks out.I saw another post on Twitter talking about this. If this is all true then heads are gonna roll. Hsm better be ready to fight for his life because once this spreads all over somali media people are gonna riot.
Do you mean if a new president is elected? I don't think the deal would be that's easy to get out of.if the FGS falls won’t the deal be null and void? The new government (whomever they may be) have a right to wave all those previous agreements away and order the Turks out.
The guy is a looter and plunderer. He’s accepted that he won’t rule Somalia in its entirety so he’s taking advantage of the state apparatus to plunder unabated. Whatever he’s accepted, it can’t be more than 50 to 100 mill. Not even the Turks would lavish such a creature like him. What could they possibly give HSM for him to sign this ? This deal went through the parliament and it can't get cancelled.
No I mean if the FGS collapses or is replaced, and it probably will in the future, Whatever succeeding government or state entity surely won’t recognise the deal will they? They have a right to render it null and void in the case that turkey demands compensation?Do you mean if a new president is elected? I don't think the deal would be that's easy to get out of.
I'm honestly still having a hard time believing this is real. Like how could anybody sign a deal this inanse? With how unstable and crazy things have been recently in somalia. When this news spreads across the country it might be the match that lights the fuse.
I'm not sure but that definitely sounds possible. No I mean if the FGS collapses or is replaced, and it probably will in the future, Whatever succeeding government or state entity surely won’t recognise the deal will they? Smash and grab operation. Everyone thought HSMs first term was a disaster but this is term is shaping up to be a bigger disaster, AS defeat the SNA, sabotage and non cooperation with the two D5 FMS, lopsided and shady deals with foreign countries, corruption is rampant.None of us are oil experts, so I ran the documents through ChatGPT to better understand the details. The results are concerning. In short, Türkiye benefits from paying unusually low royalties on gross production. (A royalty is a fixed percentage paid to the host country from total production, regardless of whether the project is profitable.)
On top of that, Türkiye is allowed to recover a much higher portion of production costs, up to 90%, before any profits are shared. Even more troubling, they can unilaterally inflate the reported project costs by adding supplementary security expenses, which are also recoverable. This means they can effectively raise the cost of the project and delay profit-sharing further. If we ever take issue with this we would have to dispute it with the Turkish government in a Turkish court

7. Low Royalty Rate
Somalia’s royalty is capped at 5%, which is significantly below the global average of 10–20%.
Tbh I think we wait and see if we can get *actual* official documents. Somalia’s negotiating position is definitely weak but not weak enough for 5% royalties and all of the other nonsense in this agreement.Smash and grab operation. I’ve heard that it’s been leaked by the someone on the Turkish side, the agreement and its various stipulations were always secret, although we know an deal was signed. and was signed probably a year or two ago.I just looked into the source of this article and I'm now somewhat suspicious about how true this is. The website which is called Nordic monitor (an organization based in sweden )reported on this belongs to a guy affiliated with the gulen network that tried to do coup in turkey in 2016. The article writer is also somebody based in Sweden and turkeys been trying to extradite him back to face charges. He'll be instantly arrested if he steps on Turkish soil
It's also kind of weird that they have the document on their website and there's no link to a govt website to download from. It's also in English which now that I think about it is weird for a Turkish govt document
Yeah i think I might have been to hasty in assuming this was true. The website which everybody got this from and which is an organization focuses on turkish related matters doesn't seem to have a single positive or neutral article on turkeyTbh I think we wait and see if we can get *actual* official documents. Somalia’s negotiating position is definitely weak but not weak enough for 5% royalties and all of the other nonsense in this agreement.
My hope is that this document is fake and not the *actual* agreement but I wouldn’t put it past the HSM government if this was somehow true. I think we’ll get a good read on if this is true or not within the next couple of days

“The document, officially titled “Agreement Between the Government of the Republic of Türkiye and the Federal Government of the Federal Republic of Somalia in the Field of Hydrocarbons,” was signed on March 7, 2024, in Istanbul by Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar and Somali Petroleum Minister Abdirizak Omar Mohamed. It was only recently made public as part of parliamentary proceedings.”
I’m not sure why the author claims this since there are several article already on this. For example, this one from the 7th of March, 2024. It was published the same day the deal was signed:

I think we should wait until an actual PDF is provided by legitimately reputable Somali and Turkish media outlets.
