Historical disaster: Hassan Sheikh Mohamud gives Turkey 95% of oil royalties and 90% production

After looking into it more, I honestly don't think its that bad a deal. While the 90% recovery may seem bad on paper, remember that all it'll mean is Turkey will be paid faster so productions/profits can happen sooner as per the 70%/30% split that gets tossed around. Also. Somalia is a very risky country both in terms of safety and investment and has little in way of infastructure, literally no other oil company would want to work in Somalia. Furthermore this is only for 3 blocks of oil, so for the rest Somalia can negotiate for better deals once the profits start coming in as Somalia will have better leverage. Also, IIRC, this sort oil recovery was already talked about back during the Farmaajo era. And this agreemenr ends in 5 years anyways too.

At the end of the day Somalia isn't paying a dime here and won't incur any debts which is the important part. Also, reminder that the Saudis initially owned 0% of their oil as it was all owned by the American Aramco company. Eventually they managed to negotiated and gain 100% owenership of their oil. Somalia is starting out is much better position than the Saudis and it will only get better.

Somalia needed a quick fix and so the deal is a bad one by international norms.

If you maintain your own territorial integrity and sovereignty you get a normal deal. If you are trying to buy it you factor that into the deal and Somalia takes less money so Turks offer some protection.

This deal was signed to try and sabotage Somaliland independence so yeah.

In a way this was always the outcome of turning the capital of a sovereign nation into a clan fiefdom, the rest of the country gets sold on the cheap to uphold the soveriegnty of this minority of Somalian citizens. Somalia (Italian Somaliland) is a failed state and will never return to normal governance.

This sham petroleum deal has drastic ramifications for the country's future:

  1. It's a daytime robbery and plunder of the country's natural resources.
  2. HSM is obviously entangled and chained by the Turkish gov. He cannot possibly back out of this deal as he obviously has a deal with them guaranteeing his stay on power.
  3. Even if the Somali parliament rejects this deal the Turkish government will bribe every gov official in FGS, else they will use military force to protect their interest.
  4. Turkish mercenaries are currently on the way to secure the two shabelle regions, which can be interpreted as a way to indefinitely keep HSM in power.

It's a mess upon mess upon mess. HSM is the worst politician in the history of our people (I'm talking about the last thousands of years).
