They are a subclan of one of the major four tribes. I don't think I've ever heard that Rahanweyne are not Somali. They just speak their own dialect which some argue is a language itself but they are as Somali as anyone and the most beautiful Somali women are said to be Rahanweyne. Yeah right, browse Somali forums or any other place you'll see words like "Eelay" being thrown as insult or them being mixed Oromo or Habesha and not real Somalis.

No such thing as "Northern"

Even in this forum. They are largely sedentary so they are hated and speaking a different dialect which makes it even worse.

You can find people who say that sheikh Darod was an Oromo shoe-thief from Yemen, or that MJs are originally from Sri Lanka. You can find people saying that Isaaq are Arab rape babies or that Hawiye are originally Bantu. Never in real life have I seen or heard someone seriously say that Raxanweyne are not Somali. Never.

Pretty sure there was that somalilander sing critic that said maay is a completely different language to Somali. I've been accused of being a secret raxanweyne because I have the most basic knowledge about other tribes other than my own.
