How bad is the CS Job Market?

These are just a couple examples I saw on tiktok and many more showcasing how tight the job market in CS is, And mind you the first tiktok is a guy who has pristine experience and as he said came from "a very good university" there are people in both comment sections who got CS degree complaining about how hard it is for them to find a job although they have a long, diverse and large portfolio of experience.

Any users on here with CS degree? Your input would be appreciated the same goes for people who work in HR or did some other degree in uni, is it only restricted to CS or is this on a wider scale and why?

The job market isn't tight, it's just that the entry level requirements have gotten more. When software engineering/programming etc was relatively more recent field that was developing, you could get a way with having basic level education before you entered a job.

Now an entry level full time job require you to have 3-4 years of experience. It is similar in other fields like in business/finance.

The way to work around this, is not just apply for jobs right away , it is to build your portfolio with projects, do freelance work, volunteer work, courses and internships. Leveraging this helps you get a foot through the door into an entry level job and from there you can upgrade.

AI will be mainly used as a tool, it wont really replace programmers they way they replace copywriters for example.

I was going to major in this but nvm now ☠☠

Look at majors like medicine/dentistry related or architecture, teaching etc , you will get a job right after you graduate.

Especially health care industry is extremely employable.

Another useless degree, universities are the biggest racket in the world. He could”ve learned all these skills online. I know kids that succeeded after building their own projects from scratch and are now millionaire app developers.

:hahaidiot:

Honestly I love computer science, and it's amazing, but it seems that kids think that it is all just coding. CS is much more than that.

I thank God that my love for mathematics has skyrocketed.

Also I blame TikTok for this. 5-10 years ago CS was just niche, and now you see all these influencers talking about how you can do little work with programming for 100k, which has exploded this market.
