I used to speak Somali fluently when I was younger. When I started teaching myself Arabic at 17 I spoke it less and less to the point I can now barely construct any sentences but I still understand it perfectly. I just find Arabic to be more practical in my daily life especially from the religious perspective and in which society I hope to live in one day inshallah. I don't see myself ever living in Somalia in the future even if it is peaceful so retaining the language has no use at all to me.
