It really depends how quickly Somalia recovers to a respectable level. Most immigrants that come to United States, they go back and forth between their origin land. This way they keep in touch with their culture. You can't really do that at a mass scale when the country ranked the worst in the world and politicians having secret relationship with al shabab on top of that the country really depends on remittance and international fund/donation. In that case many of them will not bother going back and trying to change rather, they will try to adopt to their new home. It had been 60 years since independence, the country was in choas half of that.

There are people who are going back currently trying to make a difference for a better future. The unfortunate case is that, there will be new generation of people as time goes that will have no connection to Somalia and they will have less incentive to go back. The new generation with new language, culture and new mindset how they view things. It takes about three generations to see major difference between native Somalis vs Somali diasporas. Maybe four to six generation to see a difference between Somalis in North America compare to Europe.

We are running against time folks, we cant have group of new generation that have no connection to somalia and another local group that grown up in a country with no strong central government to long.

The vast majority of posts are to do with race and gender. Don't kid yourself. I don't want to turn England in to Somalia but I do enjoy watching it turn into Pakistan, India and Bangladesh. During colonisation, kids were given a traditional name and a Western name in Asian and many African colonies. Notable example is Nelson Mandela, his name Nelson is not his birth name but rather one given to him by his kindergarten teacher.

To this day, children born in places like Singapore, Hong Kong will have Western names from birth.

Korea and China were colonized by Japan, only Hong Kong and Macau were colonized by western nations. Japan was never colonized, so why the western names. Tbh I see a FEW chinese/koreans/japanese with their traditional names, but that’s like one person from each ethnicity. In Korea, nearly everyone has a “western” name, why? Japan was colonised in certain areas before the Meiji restoration. The Europeans did not colonise these countries proper but set up settlements in major cities and sent missionaries around the country as well as setting up schools.

Yes and no. If you subtract being Muslim, America and Somalia have the same values. Even when my dad and grandpa assimilated, their culture was still very different than AAs. They also married women who are phenotypic and culturing similar to them as well. It’s similar to Chicano (Mexican-American) and traditional Mexicans
