Though he's technically correct. But it's easy for him and other sheikhs, since they made their religion into their profession. But what about the miskeens who have to work with westerners and spend 40+ hours a week with them? He was hired because of his Imam status, but they wouldn't be as open minded if you were a regular Farax working in a company. You wouldn't even pass the interview if you refused her hand. Besides he's adressing kids who are on the verge of losing their religion and he's talking about shaking hands. I wish they put things in perspective when giving lectures to western Muslims. Shaking hands, growing the beard and wearing the pants above the ankles shouldn't be a top priority. I consider those things to be the perfection of religion and not the basics of islam. To put it in an analogy, growing beard is about getting extra credits while the basics such as praying and fasting is the main test. Just remember that the first thing Allah will ask you is your prayer and if your prayers are good, everything else will be good

At his time, the greatest threat was muslims becoming christain since that was still heavily believed & pushed by the west who were majority christain/catholic at the time. He took on their biggest scholars & completely crushed them with their own books. Right now the intellectual fight is against atheism/agnostics. The scholars of the past have volumes of books written on every topic I've seen an atheist/agnostic debate, but I have yet to see an Imam at least in the west, or somali community use these books or reference them. Every thing has been penned by the ulama of old alxamdulilah because they faced this problem in the 3rd century when greek philosophy made its way to the muslim world.

I sincerely hope you guys reconsider your faith & actually take a look into some books on Islamic philosophy & theology. All of the materials can be found online as Ebooks many written by Al Ghazali, al juwayni Al sanusi(he's really good). Take my insults as banter, I gotta keep the convo fluid & entertaining for viewers

None of that will make a blind bit of difference so long as you're pushing the unscientific, irrational, and primitive sheikhs that you do. Al Ghazali was one of the biggest culprits in the decline of Muslim philosophy. His thinking was a repudiation of the scientific method. It plunged the Muslim world into the dark ages from which they have yet to recover. He won't convince educated Muslims, let alone scientific materialists. These guys need to check out the scholars I post on the religion section. They're rational and pro-science.

Al-Ghazali argued there were no laws of nature. No physical constants in the universe. No causality. Everything which happens in the world - something catching on fire, a leaf falling to the ground - was caused directly by Allah. This is unscientific. The universe runs according to a fixed set of mathematical laws which astronomers have calculated. It's one of the arguments for God in fact. It's called the Anthropic Principle. He doesn't need to intervene in every action. He lets those laws of cause and effect take their course.

This all sounds academic, but the reason this is important is because
If the universe does not have a fixed order, then science is impossible because there's no pattern to study. Anything and everything can happen. Pigs can fly and rocks can dance. I'm not exaggerating. There was a story not too long ago making the rounds in the Somali community of a woman that gave birth to a snake. They said it was a mucjizah. But if you know about genetics, you'd never believe this. A few years before that there was another story about a Muslim guy who turned into a dog. It creates a culture of superstition and credulity. And some hadiths reflect this unscientific mindset.

I like Hamza Yusuf. Dr Adnan is even better. You should watch his lecture before you dismiss it. He shows how ignorant wadaads with no scientific training have passed fatwas against many discoveries in physics, chemistry, and biology including technological advances. They banned the printing press, telegrams, tap water, coffee, radio, television, the list is endless. Everything is bida'h and everything is shirk to these guys. It's not surprising since wadaads ban women from driving in KSA. Who the hell wants to follow people like that? These crooks need to be thrown out of the masjids. We need fresh thinking. Westerners are colonizing Mars, and these primitives are talking about beards and short trousers.
