How popular is the Ogaden region to Somalia?

I often read Somalis here who talk about re-uniting Ogaden with Somalia. Any topic about Ethiopia, there is always an off-topic post about the Ogaden region so this led me to raise this question.

There is one thing I don't really understand and I hope I get an appropriate response for this.

- Why are Somalis focusing so much on the Ogaden region when their own country is disintegrating into multiple autonomous states with different flag, different sense of nationalism, different government, view each other as an outsider and treat each other like third class citizens?

- Somalis (like their Ethiopian cousin) do not have any sense of nationalism at all and are only loyal to their tribe, clan, sub clan and sub, sub clan. Never in history Somalis were united as a country but only in their own tribal land. Yet, Ogaden have become a hot-topic among all tribes of Somali forumers.

- A bigger question is why would Ogaden ever want to join in a fragile, unstable, parts war torn, divided and a Balkanized country infested with foreign mercenaries over their quiet and stable land as long as they obey their dictators?

Am I missing something? Why would the region be relevant to your interest?

How popular is the region to Somalia? Do people talk about it IRL?

You raise some good points tbh.
Right now the Ogaden region joining Somalia wouldn't do said region much good or bring it a lot of benefits.
Currently, they're better off with the more stable Ethiopia. Hopefully the situation changes enough in Somalia that the Ogaden joining Somalia would be beneficial to both parties.

True. Ogadenia people would prefer to stay with Ethiopia as long as they have some more rights and more money from the Xabeshi government.

Don't speak for others khaniisad yahay. The overwhelming people there do not want to be part of Ethiopia.

@Regg it doesn't matter if Somalia is falling a part, the Ogaden is still a land belonging to the Somalis and regardless of how Somalia is doing, it should be governed by its people.

think of it as having a dysfunctional family and being raised by he neighbors , family is still family.

And last but not least, the people in the Ogaden do not want to be part of Ethiopia.

I'm 25% Ogaden. My paternal grandmother was OG. They don't want to join Somalia. Greater Somalia is dead. They'd prefer to stay with Ethiopia or be their own nation.

So you think they want to unite with Somalia? I'm sorry to break it to you, but the Greater Somalia dream is dead. And how would a 20 year old living in America know what Ogaden people want? I've spoken to wise elderly Somali men on this topic, and they say Ogaden want to stay in Ethiopia as long as they more rights and money from the Tigray regime. I think they'd know more than you...

ogaden is part of somalia and that has been clonised by ethopia and they torture and kill those who don't want ethopia so as somalis we will not watch our brothers and sister been tortured.

Who do you mean they? K5 isn't a person or even one clan. And still, Somaliweyn is far from dead. What difference does it make that some wouldn't want to unite with Somalia at the moment? Logistically neither would Somalia, we have to fully sustain ourselves before we can get to that point. And Insha'Allah when we do you will eat your words.

I've also spoken to my random undisclosed sources and they tell me Somaliweyn isn't dead. I think they'd know better than some random guy in the diaspora...

They are oppressed while villa somalia still tippin.

Compare to us they are less fortune since they dont have sea access.

All the respect to our muslim brothers and sisters.

Wallah you could die for speaking like that.I suggest you keep your views to yourself. It's a very dangerous thing to speak like that.
