How To Get Out Of Cooking/Ramadan

If my mum tries to make me cook what are some good ways I can get out of it

I work and on my off days I was basically in the kitchen all day I just got so angry after the weekend that I didn’t get anytime to myself. I also have studying to do which I didn’t have anytime to do

Cooking is fun laakin. Find some fun recipes and new things to cook and leave the repetitive saambuus making to someone else.

If you're spending all day in the kitchen then you're not being efficient. Work smarter not harder.

Buy food whether it's precooked or ready made. Prep everything early. The only thing you should be doing near afur time is finishing whether it's frying or plating.

Get your brother to help out. What he’s doing right now is weaponised incompetence and unacceptable. It’s much easier if you guys could alternate turns in cooking. Also, I don’t think it would be possible to avoid cooking so just make efficient dishes and meal prep.

Do bulk cooking/meal prepping once a week.
Then all you do daily is a salad and heat up the food. That is what a lot of busy people do.

Thx I will try prepping beforehand

I assume you're female? What your mom's stance on the men cooking?

How much food do you make?
She makes him make some juice or make the salad but never actually cook because he doesn’t know how
I make usually like barriis hilib malawax and then fry mandazi/ sambuus then also cleaning as well

Right now it's just me and my brothers at home (I'm 33, and they're all grown men. my mom is on holiday). I just make one dish (baasto with some sort of suugo, or maybe rice and hilib) and then let them eat it for several days. I can't be bothered cooking every day and cooking a bunch of different things. I leave the buur and sambusa to them to make (the buur only needs to be rolled out, cut and fried and the sambusa only needs to be fried as well). I'm sure your brother can be taught to do more things as well. I would also just cut out the things that are the most annoying to make. From what I hear Somali moms are tough on daughters so I don't know how she would respond if you said that to her but you have to say something

main meal + malawax + fried food and then everything extra is excessive. It's basically a full day of work if it's being done every day. It's unfair to make you do it if you're also working and doing everything else. Even for a stay at home mom it's too much

edit: have someone else clean as well. Your brother doesn't need to learn anything to do that anyway so he can start that right away
