The fob thing might have to do with the pink you mention in his pic. Pink has been accepted as a man's color for awhile in the west, so some "fobs" might think that might not be "alpha" or "manly".
I am behind on the trend I see even though I lived in the west for the better part of the last decade plus. Would you feel comfortable walking around in pink shirt? I naturally want to distance myself from any whiff of suspicion. I would die on my manhood. It is one of those things at par with Islam for me.
