Somalia is the colonial name of the south. If you read somalis constitution from the 60s the country was called Somali Republic.
Anyways there would have been a lot of differences. Djibouti wouldn’t have got independence it would have got returned to Ethiopia like Eritrea and Somali Galbeed. It would have been like when Hong Kong was given to China. This is because the French signed a treaty with menelik to come to Djibouti. The only reason they got independence was to prevent a war between a highly militarised Somalia and Ethiopia. We ended up to war a few months after anyways.
Since ethiopia wouldn’t be land locked a lot of Somalilands value would go down a lot as an independent country. It would still be richer than djibouti is now because of a larger population and natural resources like gold and oil but wouldn’t have the trade potential.
On the social front it would have never worked because the entire population was militantly pro unity. The British did offer cigaal soldiers from Aden to put the population down but he refused. It would have had to be ruled by a dictator. All in all the whole population would be against it and it would probably get overthrown by a pro unity jabhad based in Somalia and unity would have come either way.
