A few points:

1. Al Shabaab felt uniquely threatened by Farmaajo and increased the number of attacks precisely to undermine him.

2. Despite this, Farmaajo has nevertheless already overseen several important victories against Al Shabaab, including several important military takeovers of former Shabaab territory and the impending surrender of a major Shabaab leader (Robow).

3. Although he should (and will) try to improve the security situation in Mogadishu as far as his government's capacities and resources will let him, Farmaajo cannot be expected to fix the security situation in Mogadishu. Ultimately the extreme level of violence and barbarism in the city reflects the social decay of the hawiye population, which acts out and tolerates levels of violence unrivaled by other Somali clans. Farmaajo can't change hawiye's culture overnight, and unlike MSB he doesn't have the resources to lock them up en mass like zoo animals. He also has the rest of the country to focus on. After all, he's president of Somalia and not just Mogadishu.

Some of us loves to eat Cheese and others are allergic to it.
