The real winners out of this port fiasco is Hiraab. Let’s break it down.

1) They leveraged the MOU which was already dead set and secured big financial and economic advantages in their stronghold of galmudug.

2 ) They will be the first oil producing state in somalia due to the turkish somali deal increasing their political power and influence in East Africa and directing it’s future with its big oil money.

3 ) Securing multimillion-dollar investments from Turkish conglomerates to develop Hobyo port, starting in 2025. Galmudug has positioned itself as the future main hub for Ethiopian trade in Somalia. This move is set to overshadow the Somaliland and garcaad ports that were suppose to cater to the ethiopian market.

4 ) Turkey has been eyeing the possibility of a launch port in Somalia for its space program. Initially set for Jubaland, rumors suggest it will be located on the Hirshabelle coast, which would mark another economic win and cement hiraab as a big political influence not only in somalia but in the Horn of Africa.

Hiraab, specifically UDP loyalists and pro HSM centrists secured heavy investments and have a bright future of heavy cash flow flowing into their lands and pockets next few years if everything goes according to plan.

Ethiopia was always going to get their port since most of the other states were willingly to offer ETH so much more for much less.

It's a project based on emotion and not common -sense. The place doesn't have a natural port nor does it have the rocks needed nearby. It will be a very expensive endeavour and that's just the port itself, not even the road infrastructure. Should've chosen a place further down South with a better location etc.

Galmudug suffes from Sultanate of Hobyo PTSD and always has something to prove by trying to copy Puntland, instead of making moves that make sense and money.

Ethiopian want nearby ports like Awdal, Berbera etc. Hobyo is too far. Hobyo port is there to serve Somalis from Galmudug and to improve its economy.
