SNM was never secessionist in its foundation, as their sole objective was to topple the Barre regime. Secession was discussed at the Burco Conference by all clans for nearly a month. It was Garaad Cabdiqani Garaad Jama who tabled the idea of secession and encouraged reclaiming independence from Somalia. SNM had no involvement in that decision but rather it was the clan elders at Burco.

Oromo expansion is an issue in every single territory inhabited by ethnic Somalis and is not exclusive to Boorama or Awdal. The last time I was in Dir Dhaba, the place was overrun with Oromos and Amharas. Such an argument aimed at evoking emotion is a desperate attempt at a causal fallacy. Is Somaliland deliberately facilitating the replacement of Somalis in Awdal? The answer is no. However, I do agree that mass deportations must be carried out. Just like the issue of Oromo expansion, the lack of road infrastructure is a problem across all of Somaliland, especially in Awdal and Togdheer. Comparing Ethiopia and Djibouti to Awdal is simply disingenuous, considering its economic output, which is estimated at $100–$150 million annually. Inshallah, the Boorama-to-Lawyacado road will be built in the future, thanks to the efforts by Dr. Bayle.
