I once again repeat, kingdoms of our were clan based and were limited to small towns in every part of Somalia.
one thing you can never deny is that we were warring clans who would raid one another. It was the order of the day. We knew nothing about a nation-state. This concept was foreign to us. The name of the game, for centuries, was survival of the fittest clan. I dare you speak to an elder. That elder will narrate poems based on one clan threatening another. That poem speaks of the prowess of such a clan. All we knew and know now is warfare.

The military government did not create the written Somali language as it was the SYL that agreed on transitioning to Latin script after independence but were unable to get widespread parliamentary approval.

However, with parliament abolished under the Kacaan, Barre had it easier to implement the recommendations of the Language committee.
