I need help.No judgement.

I’ve never made bariis which became porridge like, but the first time I made somali bariis, it came out black. Not burnt or anything but the rice turned black. I’ve never seen anything like it, it was so embarrassing and hilarious :dead1:

Aww don’t feel too bad sis, rice is really easy to overcook, here’s an easy tip to fix that, the amount of water or if you are using maraaq should be only an inch over the rice, don’t leave the rice until you no longer see the water, cover it with aluminum foil, and lower the heat. If you are making white rice, just buy rice cooker it’s simple no hassle, and the water to rice ratio should be two cups water to one cup rice.
That's what I did too. :gladbron:

I sometimes cook for myself but not somali food mostly:wow1:. Otherwise I eat what's cooked at home:sass1:

Sounds like you using a bit too much water but don't worry rice is one of the easiest things to mess up

Heres what I do

-for every cup of rice you use a cup of water

-make sure you rinse the rice twice you can rinse it as many times you want but twice is enough imo

- pour the rice into the pot with the water cover the pot and bring to a boil and lower the fire a bit than you let boil for 10 minutes and turn heat off than leave the pot alone for another 10 minutes after that youre rice is done
