Give them an inch and they'll take a mile. The are no real differences between shabab & other salafis; the only significant difference is that a group of them have decided to take up arms to try an create their own "Islamic Emirate"...
I say we adopt the Turkish approach which will involve heavy involvement of the state in religious matters to prevent extremism from thriving in Somalia.

It doesn't matter how many times the government cleans up these groups or controls mosques and etc.
Actually the more they do the more excuses you provide for the funders behind Al-Shabab that aren't Muslim and have different motivations.
Let me repeat what I said before.... Salafis or other ideologies don't matter... If someone wants chaos in a country there are plenty of options or idiots available that you can goad on if you have the funds.
Farmaajo needs to step beyond the field soldiers and talk to their backers if he's ever to clean up Somalia.
