Ancient Egyptians were part of the Mediterranean race. They became more African over time, especially when the Arabs conquered Egypt and started importing African slaves.
Contrary to what the Afrocentrists believe, the Ancient Egyptians were less racially African than modern-day Egyptians. Studies comparing Coptic Egyptians (religious isolate unchanged since roman times) vs Muslim Arab Egyptians show this as well.
Even then both these groups no longer exist. Even the Copts have a genetic contribution from ancient East African/Nilo-Saharan in them, the consequence of interaction with them thousands of years ago.
