it’s not even about ideal, it’s about circumstances. I’d probably have a hard time finding a woman my height and Id have an even harder time finding a woman who’s taller than me. On top of all that what are the chances we’re a good match?

That’s obviously the same for most men and women, which is why most people will answer a man taller than a woman is ideal. It just makes more sense, it’d look kind of weird and almost comical if the woman was taller than the man.
