'' don't personally know any somalis in Denmark.

But annecdotal data is usually not very reliable anyways so I prefer statistics.

Given the relatively low number of somalis in Denmark I'd say most danes share the above with me.

Unfortunately the somali have pretty bad statistics in Denmark. They are rivaled only by palestinians and syrians (who came recently which in some ways may be a factor) in having very low employment and very high crime etc. etc.:

https://www.dst.dk/Site/Dst/Udgivelser/GetPubFile.aspx?id=34714&sid=indv2021

So I think most danes don't think too highly of somalis in Denmark. Though I'd think the vast majority will be perfectly willing to give a given individual a chance and be quick to judge him/her on actions and not ethnicity. Though surely not all, unfortunately.

Sorry if this is not what you hoped to hear.''

''they are one of the least integrated groups we have, they are way over represented in serious crime statistics - way under represented on the job market etc etc etc

as a group we would be better of without them, but that does not mean that those of us that have had interactions with them have never met some good guys/girls''

''The few somalis I've met were nice enough people. But lord have mercy on your ass if you ever ask other africans if they're somali. I don't know what they've done to be so despised in general among africans other than piracy.''

''I know that every somali is different, but they will unfortnatly not have a good reputation in denmark. Also, in my experience, looked down on by other immigrants. But of course when you meet one person at the university, at work and so one, its a nice person.''

''I know one and she's very sweet, caring and decent. She fled Somali years ago because she refused wearing a headscarf and because she saw way too much shit back then. Today she even went to my uncles funeral after he's been verbally abusing her for years.''

I don't know many Somalis other than her, but come to think about it, the ones I know are very kind.

''As a teacher, it has been a very mixed experience, although more good than bad. Somalis, like other nationalities, are different! I’ve had bright students, really funny and sweet students..as well as abused students, and really fucked up, bordering to evil, students.''

''Well I'm married to a Somali man, and he is the best person I know haha 😂😍 his family as well, and were very welcoming. I in general think that the Somali people in Denmark are being looked at in the worst way. Most of my Somali friends are highly educated people... So the laziness think is not something I can recognise :) I guess even us pure Danes are lazy and ignorant :)''

''The ones I've met have strangely all had a really nice sense of humour and were all very warm humans. With that said, a majority of them had been dealt a very shitty hand by life, only being in the country because they had to flee from war and famine, and for that reason carried around some heavy trauma.''
(Strangely because it seemed like every single one of them were hilarious as f*ck with no exception.)

''The two somalis i have worked with, was the laziest people i ever met. Undskyld..''

''had very close Somali friends growing up. I have nothing againts Somalis as a whole. Unfortunately, a handful of those I knew grew up in not so nice areas and thus became entangled with the gangs there.''

''Generally, Somalis are among some of the ethnic groups who have 'performed' worst in Denmark. It's my personal impression that many Somali men in Denmark sort of 'keep each other down', but this is more of a social problem than a cultural one.''

''The only real experience i have, is a previous coworker.''

''Lets just say it wasnt positive, felt like our world views, work etic and general behaviour was very far from eachother.''

''Even tho he had been in Denmark for 30+ years, he could barely talk danish. That was despite he having a danish wife and kids, he also had a bad habit of lieing about everything.''

''The statistics aren't really in the Somalis' favor, but the Somalis I've met are great and helpful people. I also know quite a few who work in the public sector.''
''Fundamentally speaking, everyone is worthy of respect.''

''Well from experience I have met somalies two times.

Once was when four somalie men picked up a friends littlesister and I later found out they raped her.

The second time was when a somalie man moved into the apartment downstairs and blasted islamic prayer music from 3 AM to 3 PM and then when people started complaining about him he went door to door and antagonized every tenant in the building. He was high on khat constantly which made him slightly unstable. So yeah he was kicked about 3 months after moving in because the entire neighborhood rallied around the issue and got him kicked out.

Havent really met alot of somalies, but those I have were terrible people.''

''At my old dormitory, we had to replace our old refrigerators with newer models, to improve our energy rating and save money on electricity.''
''I was on the board, and we had several talks about how we would get the old ones correctly disposed of, and how much it would cost to have some company pick them up for us.''
''That turned out to not be necessary, since a group of somalis turned up in our parking lot, and they politely asked us if they were free, and, within 2 hours, all 36 full-size refrigerators were all gone.''
''Very beneficial for everyone involved.''

''If you ask the average Dane to rank people of other countries, I think you will find Somalis at the bottom. They could probably take the last two spots on the list but unfortunately they got competition at being the most criminal people in our country. Personally, I wouldn't lose any sleep if they were all deported tomorrow.''

''My father had a somali guy living at his house back in 90’s…. It did no go well, because the guy was lying a lot. Later on I went to school with his daughters, they were very agressive, however also very kind and funny. When I visited their house now and then their little brothers were oftent strapped/tied up to the couch with rope, and all kids in the house were often whipped 🥲

That is my only experiences with somalis. I know they do not do so well in Denmark compared to others nationalities. I think they somehow have a bad moral and etic, or maybe they just collectively been through shit. Look at the country… why do people hate and fight so much''

''I was freind with one time and he stole my Phone and when I Conforte him he stab me with a knife. For mabye 4 years ago i was in Hillerød and here there was a group of somali and afhgang that roomed the translation mogging ppl. I saw them mugging a young guy And I beat the shit out of them. And the police thanke me for that. So yeah there is notting Nice to say about somali.''

''Mixed.. I have had coworkers who was very lazy but also some who was very good. I served some Somali weddings where there were only males, and they were All very Nice.''

''People are wary of you.''

''You will have a hard time finding employment, and maybe even friends unless you are active when it comes to learning danish.

My friends and I have recently started playing board games with a guy coming from China, who is also learning danish.''

''You can find a group of people to be around, but it is not necessarily easy and mostly luck. The only reason they guy from china managed to get to us, is because my friend came together with another now friend from the same class, and the chinese guy was just invited as a result.''

''I can not say how much day to day racism you will end up facing. My opinion is, that most danish guys are cowards, but you will probably experience the one bold person, or drunk guy speaking up.''

''I worked with a Somali once. Heart of gold - one of the best and most hard working people you’ll come across.''

''But the stats aren’t lying, sadly. Many have very bad experiences.''

''i used to live by folkets park in a street dubbed “somalia street”, one of my favourite places ive lived :)

a real community. friendly neighbours, many somalis, eritrean, and ethiopian (among many others from european and middle-eastern countries too of course). i love the culture of hanging out in or in front of the shops, the park, the street ?? the whole street felt like home, not just our apartment. more or less everyone spoke english well and understood danish to some degree. i never had problems communicating with or being around anyone

i also have several friends from somalia that i know from various different places. great people, im always welcome for (amazing) dinner :) family first mentality, they have a good (emotional) support network in the family and community theyre able to have here - is my impression ! based on the less than 0,25% somalis in denmark i know 😌
ive never had a negative encounter''

''Well this comment section is pleasant.''

''I haven't had many interactions with Somalis, but did share a class with a Somali girl who seemed very disillusioned about her home country and was very focused on school and not so much on making friends. I did a few attempts and was rejected and that's okay.''

''There were some Somali families in the building complexes we lived in at the time. They seemed pretty chill and just lived their lives. Some boys were a bit rowdy, but nothing to write home about.''

''Kind of a sidenote, but I have always found the Somali flag to be one of the prettiest flags in the world. So simple and delicate :)''

Tbh somali people are not unpleasant ppl on average and they’re too insular and keep to themselves too much for most ppl to even have negative experiences with them. Worst case scenario they’ve been a victim of crimes committed by a somali, but even that is very unusual. Us being overrepresented in crime statistics does not mean much since Scandi in general has low crime stats. And our criminals typically commit crimes against other criminals in our community.

somalis are the largest subsaharan african group in Scandi and are thus far more hypervisible than other blk african ethnic groups, they are primarily attacked bcs of their poor performance and lack of desire to assimilate + very visibly muslim, congregate and form ethnic clusters as opposed to other groups who are more spread out lol, other blk african ethnic groups do not perform much better but are less hypervisible and less numerous so there’s no negative perceptions and stereotypes associated with their respective ethnic groups. They barely exist in the minds of the scandi collective.

Other africans don’t hate somalis here lol they’re just eager to distance themselves from being associated w an ethnic group that has a bad reputation. Scandi is very socially segregated, whites have not spent enough time around different groups for them to clock phenotypical differences lol, they can not tell the difference between a nigerian, southsudanese or somali guy 🤣 to them any ni99er is somali lol. It pisses ppl off lol

also I feel like this is one thing everyone seems to do *except* for somali people. If a particular group becomes the target of mainstream (white) society (for whatever reason) they will join in on shitting on them. Whether it’s anti-indian hate, or syrians or afghans, other immigrant groups will go out of their way to denigrate them and try their best to distance themselves from them .. it’s very bizarre. Dhegocas and timojileec seem to be experts in this. But madows are not any different tbh.

Most of what they said is true, the statistics aren't in our favor, some Somalis, for odd, reasons, tend to not want to work, although they were either born there or lived there for too long. The Danish language is one of the ugliest and probably the hardest languages in Scandinavia, it can be obstacle, it is not a problem for those who born in denmark.

Are we the African Romanis (Gypsies)?
We are sometimes described as such lol, but no unlike romanis our current situation is temporary.

the first generation of somalis (our parents) failed to adapt and act accordingly; seek higher education, become dual-income household, move out of low income and crimeridden areas then have kids.

they did the opposite. Got married early, didn’t bother getting into edu, father was the only working, stayed in the hood and had a shit ton of kids. Some of their kids were integrated into already existing criminal networks, other went to shitty state schools who had no real desire to provide their kids with decent education. Our generation (2nd gen) didn’t fare too well but those that grew up in proactive somali communities (had our own kindergarten, schools, after school programs etc) ended up having better outcomes. 3nd gen will be much better.

however our stats are and will continue to be pulled down by the new wave of somali refugees post 2010 💀 And I’ve noticed nobody is looking out for those people, esp since the state keeps settling them in random cities where there isnt an already established somali community.

There’s more than 100k in Sweden and some of the sentiments in swedish political/social discourse finds its way into Denmark, esp since swedish (somali) gangs have links to danish gangs and committed murders there.

Turks have been there longer than Somalis, yet they were barely accepted until they compromised their values.

There are also hardworking Somalis. For example, my grandmother's brother was a teacher and well respected. But there are also a lot of bums in Denmark. When I used to live there, there was a house full of Somali men just drinking and smoking all day.

Based on what I have gathered, they perceive Islam as oppressive to women and view it as a political system that threatens their values and freedom of expression. As a result, they believe it should not be tolerated or allowed to gain further influence, as seen in the UK.

The reason why the first gen failed were due to low education and them arriving in the beginning of 1990 economic depression, some probably were traumatized because of the war.

Not to generalize or anything, but it feels like every time Europeans talk about Somalis, they always say we're rowdy or unpleasant, and the stats don’t look great either like with crime rates, unemployment, or integration struggles. Instead of just denying that, shouldn’t we focus on reaching out to Somali communities and helping them address these issues? Things like mentorship programs and community initiatives could really make a difference instead of always complaining abt them and calling them racist and something . We know that alot somalis are hardworking individuals but theres a good portion of us that are involved in crime and add no benefit to these countries

I live in Scandinavia a, somalis are only represented on petty crimes. Major crimes and crime network cartels are done mainly by other ajnabis, yet we are targeted. Statistically we are not that bad. Its rather other things. As Boqolsoon rahimahullah said inbof his tapes, the koofiyo dhuub will turn against you the population you live amongst if you practice deen
