On further thinking i kinda get where you are coming from @Daisy and i agree.
No one can love themselves in a closet of lies and negativity. So there is no "how come people not proud to be Somali" if all they are shown is distortions and lies. And we need to expand on this in 2016 and explain what negative means. Because some are so shaky in terms of their Somaliness that anything not positive is seen as a negative contributing to our self-hate. But Truth (in any direction) is not a negative if balanced. But we never got a balanced history or an understanding of self-- and that is the problem more than if information is negative or positive.
We learned we built great historic cities, states and we have been successful business people and great entrepreneurs, (positive) but we also learned in parts of Somalia there is conflict and poverty (negative).
That negative on its own is not the problem, it becomes a problem when it is all you been taught about yourself.
