IDP Settlement in Garowe

Ideally this is what IDP housing should be like instead of tents and cramped space. We need more projects like this. They have a school and healthcare, it's like a mini town.

It's a nice concept that grants people independence and dignity. They did a great job with site layout and providing necessary services. The only thing missing is trees and landscaping. It gets very hot in Garowe. People need tree shade and it contributes to the towns aesthetic.

Mashallah other Somalis treat IDPs like trash throwing them in shithole tents where they slowly die reer Puntland are more kind then all the other Somalis combined. The kids didn’t choose for their life to be fucked up like this but now they have a shot at making something of themselves. The greatest talent comes from the most impoverished places when they’re given a chance the next bill gates is gonna come from this IDP and he’s gonna give back to the land boost our economy look at the west and how immigrants made great achievements and breakthroughs in a number of different industries cause they where given a shot at life it’s the same principle here.

They built them in bossaso but the IDP’s all left them and they’re empty now

As in they went back to their homes? If so I think that's fine, since other IDPs can move in.
No they went back to living in tents. The houses were built too far from where they worked, they got too hot in the summer and if they lived in houses they felt that it would become permanent and they would never return home

I wonder how far is too far. The one in Garowe is 5km from the city so like an hour walk. A lot of IDPs are unemployed and disabled though, so I think this is still good for them.

IDP’s aren’t homeless they have a home they just can’t go there now.
You’re wrong and you don’t understand what it means to be homeless. The very fact that they live in IDP camps makes them homeless it doesn’t matter if they used to have a home back in their city even though most these people where also homeless in their hometowns and a tent doesn’t count as a home it’s something they can live inside of but it doesn’t change the fact they’re homeless cause it’s not a house. By your logic if I move to a different city and live in a homeless shelter technically I’m not homeless eh cause I can live in my moms house in my hometown I just can’t go there right now cause I don’t have money for a train ride back. Until they go back to whatever homes they have in whatever city they are a homeless. Furthermore if any of these people owned land with houses on top they would’ve sold it long time ago or rent it out cause that’s what you do when you’re starving especially when you have children starving you sell anything of value that you own for some food.

1hr walk is nothing for people back home ik schoolkids who would wake up 5:30am and by 6 they’re walking 2hrs every morning to go to school I would see the girls walking beside the highway early morning in their lil blue jilbaab school unis and the boys in theirs. Thats not even the worst part they have to walk right back after school and help out with the livestock or whatever chores they have to do it’s tuff but that’s how it is for reer baadiyo kids.
