My mum's family lost everything in the war. My maternal ayeyo is asharaf so they took everything by force and threatened her since awowe was dead and my hoyo and uncles were kids. My dad didn't want to be associated with his corrupt family after the war, so he moved to carabaha to pave his own path..

if everything went well and Somalia developed well in another timeline it'd be similar but still so strongly different it's kinda scary. I probably wouldn't be able to speak English, I don't think I'd be as independent and focused on my studies. makes you think about how much of your personality is cultural.

Yeah, I wouldn't be so obsessed with going to a high ranking school or being the best if I didn't grow up in the west.

Going through the proper channels is a losers game my cousin had a house in Xamar too it got looted in the early 2000s he got it back recently during covid by showing a couple soldiers the deed then paying them under the table to ram through the gate with a truck and kick out the squatters. After that he rented it out to a different family at a fair price and told them to shoot on sight if the other family tries anything

Nowhere because my parents met in the UK. But probably Hargeisa. My dad side were farmers but he ran away to hargeisa after losing a camel (that's what he told me) amd went and worked for a restaurant before running away to the Netherlands and eventually the UK.

My mom's side was reer miyi but moved to hargeisa where my grandma started sewing those multi color bags for money and my grandad worked as an accountant for some richer family.

Nah my family tried everything for over 20 years, including offering them money, but they still refuse to move out lol. The man who forcefully took it in the first place is very sick and dying atm, but now his shameless children are fighting over a house that isn’t even theirs.

This isn’t the only house that was taken over, there’s another one, but the family that live there pay rent at least.

don’t give up, at least sell your house to an abgaal businessman, that’s what a lot of people do
