If you have any shoes bags or jackets or any other " leather " garments made in the Far East China Non Muslim sphere such as Vietnam Cambodia Laos Thailand its probably pigskin since they don't have large cattle sheep or goat herds

Also the fact that the pigs are factory farmed in huge tall buildings which is kind of merciless and vile. Totally not cool.

So if your care about najaaso, those poor pigs or being duped into believing your shoes are cowhind leather this is food for thought

Majority of leather is lower quality cheaper synthetic leather, pigskin would be way to expensive to use for non-premium products. 65% of leather comes from cows while 15% comes from sheep, 11% from pigs and 9% from goats.

This is the same tier or reasoning as saying that juices are haram because the fruitjuice naturally ferments and creates neglible amounts of alcohol content.

As long as you ain't buying expensive items from China that require it, it's cheaper for them to use synthetic leather instead.

Just don't do what a certain British pm did to get accepted.

From safinat alnaja the shafi'i text
Translated by Abdullah Muḥammad al-Marbūqī al-Shāfiʿī:
Section: Impurities are of Three Types:
1. Mughallaẓah (heavy). 2. Mukhaffafah (light). 3. Mutawassiṭah (moderate).
Heavy impurity is the impurity from a dog, pig, or their offspring.
...
Section: Removing Impurity:
Heavy impurity becomes pure by removing it and then washing it seven times,* one of which should be with earth.**

* Something that becomes impure by contact and that is restricted to contamination by traces of moisture from dog or pig, whether saliva, urine or anything moist from them, or any of their dry parts that have become moist. If something dry such as the animal‟s breath or hair touches a person, it need only be removed.
** Earth cannot be substituted with something else like soap or detergent etc.

Shafi'i is the school saying all contact with the pig is najaasah, however not haram, meaning you still have to wash yourself after touching pig, meaning its gonna still be a bit annoying if you have shoes that you gotta wash your feet after wearing,

Pigskin cannot be haram even then tho. The moist has to be from the animal, things like saliva and urine. When the leather is harvested this is impossible.

True the najasah only transferred if moist, but scholars debate whether its the saliva and itsfluids, or just the animal itself when it is moist

Dog and pig filth

In the Shafi’i school, dogs and pigs and any moisture that comes from them is filthy. This is because of the hadith ‘The cleansing of a container in which a dog has lapped is to wash it seven times the first of which is with earth.’

If you touch a dog or a pig with wet hands, or a wet dog brushes passed you, or you touch moist pork or bacon, in order to purify your hands for prayer, you must wash it under the tap seven times, one of which has earth mixed into the water.
Also there's a whole islamqa question about this scenario anyway that says pigskin cant be purified with tanning like other animal hides
Better to avoid
