Your concern about the number of kids is valid considering the difficulties Somalis face raising children in America. There is benefit in the number when these kids grow up into responsible adults. There is also the possible downside to the number for any number of reasons. This father here with the ten kids will have to forego sleep to pay for Quranic studies alone. Each kid's fee is $50 for half day weekend session of Dugsi. Multiply that by ten. This is outside rent and food, gas, clothing and all things required for children. Islam costs money in America and we all agree our main concern as Somalis is our religion.

People who are quick to mention how Allah provides provisions for everyone do not think about the responsibilities Allah put on parents. Allah provides yes, but he also expects human beings to work and earn their provision. Weighing the risks is important.

Somalis are lucky today and can find religious centers and mosques easier than they used to in America. But raising children in connection with these centers, no matter how many a family has is not easy.

Everything costs money in America. Including Islam. Greed rules the day.
