Seeing the current clan conflicts, I don't believe Somalis could ever be united as an ethnic group. The best course is if we split into clan-states (Like Djibouti) and eventually work together and form the United Somali States, all completely separate but united the same way the EU unites Europe.

Somalis never lived in a state like we do now in a pre-colonial world, even the historic sultanates/imamates etc were all clan-based.

Honestly we could break up and form our clan states because let's be real it seems like we can't cooperate and make the sacrifices required to form a nation state. However, the thing that makes me a nationalist and against the breakup of Somalia is the threat of Ethiopia next door with its supposedly 129 million population and their expansionist ambitions.

Even if Shaytaan and our nafs may make qabiil logic seem attractive, for the life of me it will break my heart to see any part of Somalia being invaded, occupied and annexed by Amxaaro. And that fear is what turns me away from qabiil and makes me realise that unity is more important than anything for all Somalis....
