It was over for them the second they immigrated into our cities tbh they had a rude awakening when they met a people who believed they were superior to everybody. From there they were simply doomed to stay as bottom-feeders in somali society unlike their kin in other parts of africa and now they seethe about how things went wrong.

You're conflating political representation with social acceptance, they're two different things. They're not the only minority group that is sidelined politically. Before the war they were just as Somali as anyone else. Only thing is they were bullied for being a little different and othered in a way. I see a lot of users in this thread playing the victim when we've been the oppressors'. Even on social media we have these freaks telling them to not claim "Somali" and that they're foreigners. It depends ig. But it can vary, barwanis typically have a massive amount of south Asian admixture and a tiny bit of maybe Iranian and arab. And this is reflected in their phenotype, they’re the least looking Somalis out of all the minorities ive even seen some on TikTok with white skin no joke. There’s a running joke that they’re descendants of Portuguese when they sacked the city ig but genetic tests have proved that’s no true . Also I heard 23andme is inaccurate for them, a lot of them get more Eritrean/ethiopian than Somali somehow which isn’t really possible. There Somali admixture is still low tho, like 30% max maybe. Reer xamar are a lot different and their admixture depends on their sub. Ashraaf I know are the oldest community, most assimilated and have the highest Somali admixture I don’t even think I have more than 10% Arab tbh I look completely Somali my mum isn’t ashraaf either.

Someone mentioned before a lot of them have grievances from the civil war and their parents(refugees) probably told them their not Somali so they claim their admixture to distance themselves. I’m not saying you should ignore it but treat it as a case by case thing, some are deranged and also try historical revisionism which is blatant treason imo. There a loud minority and don’t make up the majority. I’ve seen quite a lot online claim Somali even when others in their comments persistently tell them they are not.

Regardless of dna your people have been in somalia for a very very very long time. I think the question needs to be rephrased to “how long can a people be in a certain land for them to be considered native”.

It doesnt work like that. You are a banaadiri with ties to ancient traders/merchants. I mean you know more than me but reer xamar is a big clan with a lot of different clans with different mixtures. Theres reer xamars that flat out look somali with dark skin and theres also ones that look bantu and ones that straight up look like they came from the mountains of caucasus and ones that look indian or even chinese. Its very diverse and on top of that you are what your dad is. Be proud sxb
