I’d gander you haven’t been to puntland or Somalia, so it would be you who’s guilty of assumptions. I assumed nothing. Simply noted my surroundings and spoke to the locals.
Thanks sorry, was not trying to be negative but if it as you described mashallah

It is up to us to improve the situation of our towns and cities the little work we do has a big impact.

Where you work so others may copy as this is what happens you and you create a change. Maybe I need to create something in a way that'll teach people skills for free

Loool I remember once trying to buy some fruit in Burco, and I was shocked by the prices. I was like in Xamar a watermelon costs $1-2 dollars and I can buy 4 massive mangoes for $1, whereas in burco they were selling watermelon for $6 and 1 small mango for $1.

Islaanta qudaarka gadeeysay wixi igu jawaabtay "qudaar waa la gadi kara laakinsa nabad ma la gadi karo"

:dead1:

I'll report back with the cost.

All I know so far you can get a slice on the go for 1000 - 2000SLSH depends on size

Burco has been on a negative trend for 20 years, it’s actually scary how bad it is now. Lots of HY packed up and left for New Hargeisa.

Borama has surpassed it and if things continue as they are in next 10 years Laascaanood will surpass it too. Reer Burco (both sides) need to take a long hard look at themselves and reflect

Spending most my time in Burco with a few days in Hargeisa.

  1. If you're not used to poverty, it will hit you hard at the scale it is
  2. Laziness in a good number of working age men if you hire someone to work from a specific time they will not arrive at that time until call them.
  3. The closure of laascaanood has affected allot of the business community the road was a lifeline for allot the business to take their goods to Somalia.
  4. Influx of oromo over the past few years who do nothing but either beg, polish or take trash away from people's home with a conspiracy spread by locals where they take the money back to Ethiopia to make themselves profitable.
  5. Coming from outside you'll soon realise how quick and good much money you spend. $1 = 9400SLSH before laascaanood it was 7-8000 and the economy was heading into a good place before that catostrophe as they dry port on the border would've increased trade but maybe PL officials were clever to this and did not further want to enrich SL and close this.
  6. Tea ranges from 500 to 1000
  7. Water is 1000 to 3000
  8. But starting a shop is pretty easy as rents are pretty cheap as 50usd per month.
  9. Whatever business you would like to bring from the west you would clean up over here as long as your prices are low.
  10. There is a lot of hope in the air to what this presidency bring especially for the Eastern regions
  11. If you sit and look around at people's faces there's a deep sadness in people's eyes as well on the toughness of life
  12. Any masjid in the city at random straight after Salam a Arab will get up and start begging but speaking in Arabic their story which no one will understand.
  13. School system is broken, teachers get paid by the gov but will demand money from the kids and will turn up when they want and only last 4hrs with a broken curriculum thatv didn't leave the kids with skills to take.
  14. Burco is just a giant village not a city. But it can be fixed as long as roads and pavements are built everywhere
Will update with more observation throughout the days

This Dude will get killed if u talk reality, the ppl prefer fiction and then nothing obviously changes while mother nature habarti aduunka ahayd is watching them slowly go into extinction such as nutritional deficiency, a lower living expectancy, bad drinking water, diseases from no sewages, tahrib, conflict while it's as u said oromo slowly creeping in and resettling cause that's what happen when a people fail, someone replaces them, it's an evolution principle, I see it here in Australia how aboriginal were fully replaced because as Somalis they feared facing their reality.

Their preferred living in their aboriginal dream time culture lol what dream, they are minority ina gumeed in Australia to British settlers who creeped in slowly like oromo in Somalia and took it. While Somalis are living in their own Islamic dream time and we know what the result will be.
If only your qabiil took you seriously. Unfortunately, Somalis consider call you crazy if you tell them the reality

Everyone is in poverty every shilling in their pocket is not guaranteed they gotta hustle everyday.

Don't automatically assume by what you see. I see kids in uniform all going to school and finishing happily smiling but they are not equipped for the world of work when they finish with no skills to help them make money to help their families.

People end up being in the same cycle for years and the university that they save up for years are bogus allot of them with hardly any having any international recognition.

There is currently 15 nations that grant visa free status to Somalia Passport Holders 14 are useless the 1 is Malaysia which was surprising when I found out.
This is why I would push agricultural colleges to teach farming and modern ranching. After basic reading and writing there's no point teaching the masses any further. Teach them permaculture and tell them to farm

Spend 2 days in the middle of nowhere in saaxil between sheikh and Berbera miles away from any roads.

Positive to not the roads are all top notch and smooth no potholes and journey times are much faster. There's still a few bits left to be worked on but in construction as they built a dirt track next to it which you must use. They finally no longer doing a light job of building roads but building it properly with layers and width.

Back to spending the 2 days in the middle of nowhere, still got 4g++ in these areas then met a proper reer myi while driving and had a phone. Think there isn't a place where there is a connection. Found a place where there is miles and miles off hills with this type of rock glass.

Found some ancient graves while we went gold hunting got told it's all a few thousand years old with our gold detectors directing us to under there graves. The people are saying it's from a civilization before and some say it's the Jews

They need to go back to their city. In fact I suggest all of New Hargeisa pack their bags :trumpsmirk: :mjdontkno:

Borama,Wajaale,Gabiley city and Berbera have surpassed Burco economically. Burco is a dead city because the inhabitants are ignorant Bedouins. It is a cultural issue. Easterners love to blame the West and specifically HA for their own dysfunction.

You don't mess with graves, but I have a feeling that others might do.

As words spread fast that our machine detected in these areas.

Another observation, the country is so big I don't know why people fight for the land there's enough for everyone present x100. If there's trouble somewhere just move where there's no trouble

HA took all the money from the government. Kulmiye and Bihi only contribution to Somaliland is to make HA rich and put all donor funds and projects there. All position in govt went to HA

The taxes from Burco livestock ends doesn't benefit burco it goes to Berbera and Hargeisa.

You should ask the question why certain communities are unhappy at this government and are hopeful for the new. The western regions are always getting something new whereas the rest are left to crumble

Take all the funding from galbeedka Hargeisa and it'll be dead as well...

You showed your immaturity, rather along why you go with insulting.

We are all Somaliland, this is why Tribalism sucks people think their better because someone of their tribe is in power and get hand outs from corrupt officials that's supposed to work for all not some.

Kulmiye has ruined Somaliland since they took power. Lost control of a large important part of the country made us into a "federal" state accepting from IC under Somalia.

Now don't post on here with your tribalistic nonsense

Everyone that could or is even a little ambitious had moved to Hargeisa

A similar dynamic is at play in Hiirshabelle & Galmudug. The elite of those two federal states are all living in Xamar. Having all of your smart people in a single cluster has large advantages. Mogadishu and Hargaysa have a huge variety of goods & services that are not available in smaller cities. the drawback is that this comes at the expense of places like Beledweyne and Burco.

It is still an unresolved question in economic geography whether it is preferable to have one dominant urban center (Paris in France, Bangkok in Thailand, Seoul in Korea) or many similarly sized urban center (United States, Germany, India, China).

Seems pretty resolved looking at those two lists of countries you have

I think at least in africa it's much better to have multiple urban centers. Since it spreads out development and reduces the chances of resentment developing. I think somalia woukd be in a much worse position if everything was concentrated in Mogadishu alone. It also probably helps keep coppruoption down.

What's intresting though is that of the top urban centers in east africa. The only country with 2 of them is somalia. Everywhere else in east africa has only 1 city where development is concentrated. If you leave that place everything declines.
