Mengistu is the one that ended the church dominance in Ethiopia and gave Muslims their rights to practice their faith openly without any persecutions from the state and also ended feudalism where majority of Abyssinians lived like slaves under the lands owned by few noble aristocratic families despite the negatives and the atrocities his regime did he really transformed Ethiopian society that we're still now witnessing.

SNM was never financed or backed by any foreign country or else why was it obligatory for the diaspora to send money to the movement to finance the armed struggle against the kacaan regime?? Only SSDF got the backing of Gaddafi's regime and the Derg junta in Ethiopia

The people who overthrow him showed that they were as corrupt as him from the destruction of Mogadishu by Ali Mahdi and aidid to Abdullahi Yusuf and the Ethiopian invasion of Somalia in 2006.

Ali Mahdi and his manfisto group unilaterally declared themselves as the interim govt without consulting the major opposition groups like SNM and Caydiid USC and that led to the breakdown of the country
