The ICU's leaders explicitly stated that they would only fight Ethiopia if they invaded first. Nothing about praying at Addis.
In fact, it was Ethiopia who was objectively attacking Somalia anyways since they were literally making illegal incursions on Somali soil since the 90s. How can anyone defend that or accuse the ICU as being the aggresors?

Ogadens are larger in number then Hawiyes/RX and dont settle in one continuous region yet arent nearly as divided.

Tbf is that anything different to how politics runs in Somalia? For example, Musa Biixi is a former rebel and is accused of crimes in the Awdal region, and yet became president of SL. You have General Morgan who committed crimes during the Siyad Barre era, and a previous warlord who is loved and adored by reer PL and is a public figure.
Anyways, stop trying to gaslight us. The ICU was clearly wadaads v moriyaan warlords. They used force against those who refused to give up arms, such as Abdi Qeybiid who fought in Degmada Hodan and held out the hand of peace to those who surrendered such as Indhocade/Muuse suudi.
Is it any different to what the SFG or most Somali regions state do? You guys are talking about a former warlord, whilst the SFG forgives and incorporates top AS officials into their gov. Axmed Madobe a former ICU member and Raskamboni leader with Hassan Turki is the Jubbaland president...Mukhtaar Roobow is the Minister of religion and has aspirations of being the president of Konfur Galbeed. Same goes for others Sheikh Shariif, Mahad Salaad, Fiqhi etc who were all former ICU.
In Somali clan politics/power instead of punishing former criminals/warlords/terrorists its more convenient to forgive and use them to get greater support from X clans. For example, if Indhocade surrendered and was then killed by the ICU for his warlord past then do you think the majority of HG-Cayr would've still supported the ICU? Even Islamic movements are constrained by clan politics, would you antagonise a whole qabiil and start a new front or take in the bad apple and consolidate power in the Shabelle Dhexe/Xamar/Galmudug region?
I'm not saying its right, but don't try to discredit a whole Islamic movement because of Clan pragmatic politics.
The ICU are not blameless at all, they were a new burgeoning movement that was in its infancy stages and had elements who were not pragmatic enough and also had extreme individuals within the movement.
However, the nostalgia for them by most of HAG is due to the 6 months of peace they brought to Xamar and the South which wasn't seen after the fall of the Siyad Barre government and hasn't been seen since the fall of the ICU 20 years ago....35 years! and the only time south Somalia has seen any peace is during the rule of the ICU.
Most in the South/HAG would pick ICU anyday of the week over 15 years of Warlords and 20 years of an incompetent corrupt government which lacks sovereignty.
Btw @The Oponian Guild with your conversation with @Zak12 . You're correct that most of the issues that happened after the collapse of the siyad barre's government is nothing but our own fault. Caydiid,USC,Ali mahdi no one forced them to fight each other and destroy Xamar...but I agree with @Zak12 tho that after that time in the early 90s its clear the south has suffered from foreign actors and their agendas...because let's be real if Ethiopia didn't invade in 06 with American support then the civil war stalemate in the south would've ended with a clear ICU victory.

It wasn't your fault, USC was pretty much an Ethiopian proxy, they had no actual support from Somalis and Aidiid and Mahdi were just more Ethiopian puppets (much like AY).
The only time the warlords ever had any actual support by Somalis was after the American intervention in 1993 that galvanized the public and made the locals anti-American. Similar to how Al-Shabab gained support from the public after the Ethiopian intervention. Contrary to what some might think, Somalis don't outwardly support warlords or terrorists on a qabil basis.
