It depends on which part of the west you live in . France is sort of like UK , the social mobility is frankly garbage, its not only discriminatory but also both class based societies.

I would say France and mainland Europe is worse than the UK because they are more segregationists and exclusionary. They have segregated schools even like in Denmark and Sweden.

North America in general (Canada & United States) have higher degrees of social mobility and has more of merit based society.
