I can understand ~60% of the Somali parts if I ignore the Arabic.
Timing of divergence between Maxaa Tiri and this language is not deep. Definitely within the past 2,000 years.

Garaad Awal

Zubeyri aka Targaryen of the Awalid Kingdom.
It seems heavily influenced by Banadiri dialect of Somali (Af-Maxaa), hence words like camal being utilized.Seems like they don’t pronounce ح or ع.

Is this af garre, this seems like a heavily southern maxaa tiri influenced dialect since the typical af garre is less discernible and if I am not mistaken shares a lot of lexicon with borena to the extent where there is a mutual intelligibility.

I was thinking that as well, a lot of the af-mahaaw that I hear or see in videos are usually mixed with some af-maay. But this video doesn’t feel like it has a lot of maxaa in it.

This is the original language, it is called af-mahaaw. It’s spoke in Lower shabelle and bay region. The one you probably hear is called af-garre libin from Kenya and Ethiopia. They speak an Oromized version of it with some maay and maxaa mixed in it.

Original language of what? I have never heard of it. I thought this was af garre. How is this tongue related to maxaa tiri and maay?

This called af-mahaaw, af-dhoog, or af-garre either or is fine. It’s been in Somalia for 100s of years spoken in places like Afgooye, qoryooley, and baydhabo. But I meant to say dialect, the af-garre your probably hear is an offshoot oromo/somali hybrid of this.
