Don't think for a second that they are unaware of the number of people burning with rage, ready to pour in like zombies in case of war. They have angered far too many people. If an all-out war occurs, their statehood, which they have worked for for more than a century, will be on shaky ground, this is not something they would ever risk. It seems they have regained their conscience after assessing the potential damage they could sustain in terms of war, but if Hiz had been a weak, easily defeatable militia, they would have burned the whole place to the ground without mercy. The only thing preventing them from doing this to Hiz is consequences.

Palestinians are sadly once again the real loosers in this conflict. Sure, the Israelis lost too many on October 7th, but they've massacred far many Palestinians on Gaza and it doesn't seem like Hamas has gained anything (murdering 1200 Israelis hasn't gotten their political goals any closer).
Now Israel is forced to occupy Gaza to make sure October 7th can't happen again. At the same time Israel is forced to make sure Gaza is running, ensuring food, energy, medical supplies, and shelter for the citizens of Gaza. Why? Because they destroyed nearly all critical infrastructure in Gaza. Unless their plans is to starve Gaza's to death (which is possible), they now have to help the people of Gaza with whatever difficulty they face, this is of course assuming that aid organisations can't continue supplying which is realistic since there is bound to be a shortage in supplying a 2 million population.

The minute Israel stepped into Gaza for a ground invasion, Hamas won.
Won what yet they have reduced Gaza citizens to living like rats in hellish conditions. Every family is mourning. Nearly 40000 dead and the most unfortunate thing is more will die to starvation and disease as well as psychological issues. This is nothing but a total failure by the hamass leadership. Before the war, the Sunni Arab states were gonna stop all support to Palestinians completely, abandon them, normalise all relations with Israel, integrate them into their economy etc. Saudi normalisation deal was the biggest one.
So without the attack, what exactly would change? Genocide would still be occurring, except it will be a bit slower, out of the media, and Israel would have strong international standing. If you are gonna get ethnically cleansed anyway, why make it easy for Israel?
Now Hamas still have power and haven’t been weakened, they’ve turned Israeli into a pariah state and the world has turned against them. Arab normalisation deal has been destroyed. More countries recognise Palestine now like Ireland, Spain, Norway, Slovenia. If a hezbollah war with Israel happens then what Hamas has done is a stroke of genius.
