It’s becoming clear to me Good character and sharia law are more important than economics

Looking at the life of the sahaba of the Prophet, two men are foremost are two Abu Bakr and Umar. Among the ten sahaba promised jannah a many were very wealthy and even amoung them were bonofide industrialists which shows its importance in our deen, but these men were still ranked supreme . Abu Bakr for his character and Umar for his knowledge, understanding and adherence to sharia law, something so foundational

Abu Bakr , a man known for his honesty, good charhter, softnesses, gentleness, and generosity. Even among the other 10 men promised jannah and early converts, he invited them to Islam such as Uthman, Talha, Zubair, Abdurahman ibn Awf, Abu Ubaidah

Abu Bakr being a trader who frequented Yemen, you can see this temperament being essential in winning over people in the global south as we’ve seen how Islam was spread by Hadhrami trades in Malaysia and Indonesia

Umar Ra was a later convert and converted due to listening verses of Quran specifically surah Ta-Ha. He a strong willed and physically confident man who was known to be principled but furthermore among the sahaba he dedicated and sacrificed his life to learning the sharia , which is what made him noble and made him reach lofty. Proof of his knowledge being that his son being Ibn Umar , and him being a mentor and teacher for the younger companions who where known for desipnation of knowledge like Abdullah ibn Abbās, and even many tabiuun falling into his knowledge linage like his grandson Salim ibn Abdullah ibn 'Umar who was one of the jurists of Medina. And even Nafi the freed slaves of his son

Basically, having a civil orderly God fearing society is more important than a wealthy one , you can become wealthy later but you need a strong foundation

These random killings and constant violent skirmishes could be ameliorated by further expansion to youths of military age, the basic fiqh on fighting, retaliation, etc and having an adherence to it . With mass knowledge adherence would be easier with educated populace you can’t pull the wool of people west as easily nor would it easy to incite extrajudicial violence. Id even say a full fiqh course to be part of the Somali high school curriculum would make us a more stable and honest society

Also Sharia Law is a global north phenomenon, the prophet صَلَّى ٱللَّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ moved from Mecca to Medina before establishing any law or government

Medina being the beginning of the global north west corridor (Jordan had Roman cities and their monuments and buildings are still there ) while Mecca was the end of the global southeast corridor , of trade from Asia into the Mediterranean

Medina was a literate city with many scribes and readers especially among the Ansar

Global North countries tend to have more rigid and clear-cut laws largely because they’ve developed stronger institutions and legal systems over centuries. Due to historical factors like long established bureaucratic and judicial systems, that emphasize codified rules and systematic procedures.

These systems prioritize predictability, transparency, and enforcement—characteristics necessary for supporting stable markets, property rights, and contract enforcement in advanced economies.

There’s also a cultural component. Many Global North countries tend to value individual rights and rule of law more highly, viewing clear, rigid laws as essential to ensuring fair treatment and limiting state power. This contrasts with certain Global South regions like Mecca (the avatar of tribal global south) where informal networks and community-based approaches play a larger role in resolving conflicts or managing social issues, which can make laws less rigid and informal due to sheer influence of local politics

Interestingly enough Kandahar Afghanistan is also quite north

There is an old poem in Somali (The further north you go, the closer you get to God; the further south you go, the closer you get to wealth.) Maybe it's a matter of luck xeer law wasn't completely eradicated in the South but it was weakened, in the North it's still strong, the elders hold a lot of power, and the South is very fragmented, the worst thing that could happen was the Ethiopian invasion that broke up the ICU.
