I think there’s another benefit to having optional Italian learning in Somalia.

As there aren’t many Italian speaking communities, the Italian government are more likely to allocate scholarships for Somali students to study at Italian universities.

The Somali government would probably benefit from free training for military or civil servants in Italy.

I highly doubt if Somalia would be getting this deal from the UK or Spain if we started offering English or Spanish instead of Italian.

But don’t get me wrong, there are also many flaws with this.
