I would disagree that Trump is an apt representation of the GOP. The Republican party is not some evil entity like how Democrats (and often immigrants by default) like to think of it. They do have legitimate stances. In a way, the two parties play off each and fix each others' excesses by turn. The problem with that is, it also often produces a gridlock situation where they're ineffective at getting useful bills/initiatives passed.
