Hopefully I don’t know why but Somalia has struggled to win major share of Ethiopian market so far. Berbera till this day with hundreds of millions in investment cant even get 10%. And forecast makes it seem like it will be case for long time that djibouti will dominate market share
A report on the last three months of the current budget year showed 94.5 percent of Ethiopia’s imports passed through the Djibouti port; three percent was handled at Berbera, 1.5 percent at Tadjoura, and 0.87 percent at Moyale corridor
Berbera will go from 3 million to 18 million

Djibouti from 20.2 million in 2016 to 109 million in 2050

Something doesn’t add up. Berbera port is under construction now, but after they finish, their capacity will exeede that of port of Djibouti. Despite that, they will only handle a fraction of the trade volume of Djibouti port?!?
The Port of Djibouti Container Terminal has a handling capacity of 350 000 TEU Per annum.

DP World has committed to investing up to US$442 million to expand the port, and once completed it will increase capacity by 500,000 TEUs per year.
