Karmel Mall is getting gentrified

If you don't know, Karmel Mall is a massive economic hub for Somalis (think Asian market but for Somalis) located in Minneapolis, MN.
It's currently owned by Sabri Properties, some arab guy I've heard.

Recently, it's gone through some massive renovations to add more store spaces and expanded their parking. They bought up some pharmacy chain to add more space. They've also kept parking fee to $1 per hour, never been thankful, wallahi.

If you drive to Karmel Mall from the west, you'll see those 4 story 'luxury' boxy ass apartments slowly making it's way over to Karmel Mall. The type that charges you $1850 for a 600 square foot apartment and thin ass walls. example attached.

Have any Somali entrepreneurs in the area try to build a mall?

I’ve heard a lot of negative things about this owner. If this area is getting gentrified, can’t he just raise rents and kick out the store owners who can’t pay?

Somalis need to own the actual mall and not just be renters, or else they‘ll be at the mercy of ajnabis who don’t care about them

I haven't heard of any but there is another mall called Somali Mall. It's much smaller and I haven't been there in years. Not sure who the owner is.

I'd say half of the stores were vacated/closed when I checked out the new expanded areas. He could but wouldn't be a good idea. The original 'core' is still doing healthy tho
