Their is half a million IDPs in Mogadishu that live in terrible conditions not to mention in puntland IDPs are forced to drink dirty water. Its sad that living in a refugee camp in Kenya is better.

The Somali government needs to repatriate IDPs within the country to safe zones and introduce employment training, build schools etc with the funding they get. It's not sustainable to house so many people in camps without a long term plan.

Are you sure that the main demographic are ethnic Somalis?

I had a friend told me (from Kenya) that the majority of the refugees in Dadaab and Kakuma are Somali Bantus and other ethnic minorities within Somalia. He may be wrong, though.

(Reuters) - Kenya on Wednesday ordered the closure of two sprawling camps that host hundreds of thousands of refugees from neighbouring Somalia and gave the U.N. refugee agency (UNHCR) two weeks to present a plan to do so, the interior ministry said.


The Dadaab and the Kakuma refugee camps in northern Kenya together host more than 410,000 people, a small proportion of whom are from South Sudan

Those refugees weren't sitting around, alot of them had small business there, they might as well help our economy.

The massive UN money goes towards paying the cush salaries of workers and their security and travel. Those who need it don’t see much, if any, of the money.

Close the camps and let’s rebuild Somalia. There’s so much untapped land there that could be used. Why live in a refugee camp for years just to seek asylum in another country and be treated less than a second class citizen?
