Cushites left North Sudan and were swamped by ethnic Nilotes from Central Sudan who fought with Mediterranean Egyptian types, mixed with them creating Nubians. Only the Beja are strongly Cushitic.

PCA plots are misleading. You should look at those K=7+ admix graphs. Nubians don't carry the same cluster as real Cushites do. Bejas do.

Also, in that big study on Sudan the scientists found genuine links between the Beja and Somalis, but not with other Sudanese.
